Bedgebury is our original site. It offers all weather traffic free cycle trails for both families and mountain bikers. There are 6 miles of blue graded trails or for those seeking more of a thrill there are 9 miles of red graded mountain bike single-track. The modern lake-side visitor centre offers cycle hire, extensive children’s play areas, refreshments and showers for visitors and bikes, so after a mud-spattered ride through the forest you can relax with a hot drink and shower and entertain the children.

Quench began in September 2005 by me, David Cole. Much of my career was in hotel management, running some of the best hotels in the country. After a brief spell running an acute physiciatric hospital, I moved into recruitment, working in London. In September 2005, I started Quench, recruiting for the hotel industry, whilst also offering a consultancy service to small local businesses that were growing rapidly, but who didn’t necessarily have the systems, processes and procedures in place to support that growth. It was truly a ‘back bedroom business’ but I had a handful of clients, positive job flow and business was good.
People often ask why the business is called Quench. It’s very simple really. I wanted the business to have a younger, more contemporary name and to quench, is to satisfy a need.
In May 2007, the cycle franchise at Bedgebury became available at short notice. I was a keen social cyclist, knew of Bedgebury from my own cycling and I seized the opportunity to take on this business.
When I took over, the site historically attracted about 50,000 visitors per year. In 2016 that number was close to half a million and the Quench Team grew too. On our first day, we had 70 bikes and only offered cycle hire. We now have over 300 bikes, offer cycle hire, cycle sales, parts & accessories, maintenance courses, skills courses, birthday parties, GCSE moderation/coaching, guided rides, servicing & repairs, 3rd party fleet management and holidays.
With Quench growing from strength to strength, we wanted to give more people the chance to enjoy cycling, but we were aware that location was vital to any success.
In February 2017 Quench opened our second location at Cyclopark, Gravesend. This was a perfect fit for Quench as Cyclopark offer world class facilities including BMX track, road track, mountain bike trails, skate park, group fitness activities and much more.
Quench has more exciting times ahead, as we look to develop at Gravesend train station with an urban bicycle cafe and workshop. Grab a coffee while our mechanics fix your bike from flat tyres to full services. You can head off on your daily commute and return in time to collect your repaired bike. It means Quench customers can enjoy their weekends with one less thing to worry about and gives them more time to spend cycling.
